Birding Resources:

eBird: Many birders now use the app called eBird. It allows you to keep a tally of all the bird species that you see during a hike. You can then easily check how many species you have seen each year for each different region. If you like fun competition then you can see how you are doing compared to other birders. It will also let you know where to find species that are missing from your list.

Niagara Birds: This book by John Black and Kayo Roy is a complete guide to the birds of Niagara. For each species found in Niagara there is information about where they are often seen in Niagara and their history. There are also articles about the history of birds and birding in Niagara. Not to mention all the stunning photos. It can be difficult to find a copy of this book as it is currently out of print.

What to Bring Birding:

The Peninsula Field Naturalists Club schedules many birding trips in every season: from looking for ducks on the Niagara River and Lake Ontario, to strolls through lush, peaceful wooded areas in the summer. We welcome visitors, all adults and supervised childern, to join us. Check the calendar for our next outing Whether you join one of our club outings or head out on your own, there are a few things you may want to take these with you:

Birder's Code of Conduct:

It is important to be careful not to disturb the birds or cause them distress, particularly in the spring when they are breeding and raising young. Some species are particularly sensitive towards humans (such as owls). Thanks to the Ottawa Field Naturalist club for letting us link to their code of conduct.
